Los Angeles, CA – Today, California gubernatorial candidate Stephen J. Cloobeck released a new ad titled “Taxin’ Antonio”, focusing squarely on the sharp contrast between his plan to make California Affordable, Livable, and Workable and former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s long history of raising taxes.
The hard-hitting spot warns voters about “politicians who have been raising taxes for 30 years, now claiming to be fiscally responsible.” The ad points directly at Villaraigosa, calling him “Taxin’ Antonio”, and highlighting a political career defined by higher taxes on working families, efforts to weaken Proposition 13, and even proposals to invent new taxes.d
“Antonio Villaraigosa’s very first act as a politician was to raise our income taxes, and he hasn’t stopped since,” Cloobeck said. “There’s nothing Antonio won’t tax. California’s working families cannot afford another unqualified and compromised politician .”
In the ad, Cloobeck pledges to veto billion-dollar tax hikes, reject schemes that raise gas prices, and stand firmly against attempts to overturn Prop 13, which protects homeowners and small businesses from skyrocketing property taxes.
“While Antonio Villaraigosa taxes and spends, I’ll cut red tape, veto reckless tax hikes, and fight for the Customers of California,” Cloobeck added, “The same people that got us into this mess are not the same people getting us out of this mess.”
The “Taxin’ Antonio” ad will run on digital platforms, targeting voters across California who are demanding real solutions to the state’s affordability crisis.
