Affordability
Simple Solutions: A Better Way, A Better Life
State Of Emergency
- Affordable is the first word in my core message, because Affordability is a FULL-BLOWN CRISIS here in California that calls for an immediate state-of-emergency declaration for a red-tape reset of the most suffocating regulations.
- Working families, young people, retirees, and small businesses are being crushed under the weight of costs and paperwork. Housing prices have exploded, businesses are fleeing to other states, our children and grandchildren are leaving, and working people are being priced out of the communities they helped build, some with their own bare hands. Unqualified leadership has taken a wrecking ball to the California dream.
Getting Down To Brass Tacks
- Let’s get right to it. We need to hit the pause button on the Species and Wildlife Acts, the Coastal Commission, and CEQA (California Environmental Quality Act), so housing, infrastructure, and business development can finally breathe. This isn’t about abandoning the environment; it’s about saving our state and a generation from being shut out of their own backyards.
- The temporary but open-ended time-out will last until the Legislature drafts and enacts equitable new, modernized housing and regulatory laws, essentially keeping the freeze in place to help California grow from 39 million people to 44 million people.
- By the way, the 5-million-person growth isn’t just a number; think of it as millions of Customers, taxpayers, workers, and innovators helping rebuild California’s economic strength. If we can abandon CEQA for the fires, why can’t we pause it to fight the affordability fire that’s burning down the middle class?
Life In The Fast Lane
- Development will be divided into four geographic categories: Rural, Suburban, Urban, and Coastal. Doing this allows developers to cater to the specific needs of each region for faster construction. A One-size-fits-all approach doesn’t work in a state as massive and diverse as California.
- We’re not just declaring an emergency; we’re enforcing a new standard: 120-day approvals for building. No more regulatory hell, no more NIMBY (not in my backyard) blockades or weaponized labor delays by anyone within 500 feet or otherwise. We’ll turn red tape into green lights and make California more Affordable, Livable, and Workable. This is a contract we as Californians must fulfill.
